The Chef-de-Mission meeting for the 6thAsian Winter Games took place in Changchun on 29October morning.The meeting would serveas a preparation for the Changchun Asian Winter Games scheduled from 28 Januaryto 4 February in 2007.Out of the 45 OCAmembers, 43 attended the meeting and it is expected that participants of thisedition will outnumber the previous ones.
Mr. Manuel Silvério participated the Chef-de-Mission meeting as theOCA Vice President and presented an opening speech on behalf of the OCA Mr. PresidentSheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah.Wishing the 6th Asian Winter Games successes, Mr. Manuel Silvério assured ChungchunAsian Winter Games Organising Committee (CAWGOC) did a good job on preparing theGames.
“The participation of the 43 OCA delegation teams inthe 6th Asian Winter Games signifies the support of OCA for thisGames and reflects the spirit of cooperation among the members,” added the OCA VicePresident.
“I believe this meeting would enable each of you totaste the hospitable arrangements of CAWGOC, which certainly will lay a solidfoundation for the best ever Asian Winter Games to be held in January nextyear.”
Guestsinvited to the Chef-de-Mission meeting include Vice Director-general ofGeneral Administration of Sport & Vice Chairman of Chinese OlympicCommittee (COC) Mr. Yu Zaiqing, Standing Vice Governor of Jilin Province Mr. Chen Xiaoguang, Secretary-generalof COC Mr. Gu Yaoming, Vice Mayor of Changchun Municipal Ms. An Li, Secretary-general of CAWGOC Mr.Wang Guocai, DirectorGeneral & Technical Director of OCA Mr. Husain Al Mussallam, Chairman ofOCA Sports Committee Mr. Wei Jizhong and Chairperson of OCA Women and SportsCommittee Mrs. Natalya Sipovich.
Presently, anestimation of 44 countries and regions totaling 906 athletes will participatein the 6th Asian Winter Games.In the meeting, CAWGOC reported to the OCA Executive Board and all Chefsthe operation of all aspects of the Games ranged from competition organizationto accommodation and hospitality, medical services and anti-doping control,cultural events, security, broadcasting as well as media services.In particular, CAWGOC is going to recruitthose university students who come from abroad, most of them are from Macao, to providevoluntary services in the area of hospitality during the Games.
Inthe afternoon, the official delegations of OCA and representatives of theOrganising Committees inspected the competition venues and hotel facilities inthe city of Changchun.
