Macao delegates in 2009 EAG activities

  The 22nd East Asian Games Association (EAGA)Council Meeting is adjourned today (18 June) in Hong Kongafter completing the two days schedule.EAGA Vice-president Manuel Silvério, together with the Macao delegates, attended the 5thEAG Slogan Competition Prize Presentation Ceremony and Tseung Kwan O SportsGround Ground Breaking Ceremony afterwards.

  They were also invited to the welcome dinnerhosted by the Home Affairs Bureau of the HKSAR.

  The dinner was kicked off by presentingsouvenirs and more importantly a cheque which added the sponsorship to the 5thEAG Planning Committee up to HKD26,000,000. Taking the banquet, the PlanningCommittee staged as well an awarding ceremony for the 5th EAG SloganCompetition. Out of the 13,000 submitted pieces from 7,000 parties, the slogan“Be the Legend”created by a Form 7 girl was selected the official slogan of thegames. A continuation of the spirit of the 4th EAG “New East, NewEra”, this slogan is able to best interpret the true EAG spirit. “Be theLegend” won the prize for its full illustration of the Olympic spirit, the creativityand determination of the Hong Kong peopletowards the success of the games..

  The Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground, which launchedits ground breaking ceremony yesterday, is a milestone marking the HKSARgovernment’s efforts in pushing the development of the sports circle. TheSports Ground shall have two parts. In the main part shall stand 8 lanes of 400martificial tracks, 1 FIFA standard football field, and a sheltered grandstandwith 3,500 fixed seats and an area for 1,500 overlay seats. The secondary part,on the other hand, shall be equipped with athletic facilities for warm-up andtraining purposes, a 7-player football field and functional rooms for drugtest, weightlifting event, system control and press conference. The venue isexpected to complete early 2009.
