The “Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Coordination Meeting of the 1st and 2nd Asian Indoor Games” was hosted by the Macao 2nd Asian Indoor Games Organising Committee (MAIGOC) on 1st April. Representatives from OCA, 1st and 2nd Asian Indoor Games Organising Committees and several Asian Sports Federations attended the meeting in which related information and regulations were introduced. Participants also discussed how to resolve various issues.

The 1st and 2nd Asian Indoor Games Organising Committees explained preparations by the two hosting cities, Bangkok and Macao, with video presentations during the meeting. Chairman of OCA Sports Committee Wei Jizhong reminded all participants that OCA’s main objective is to promote sport and friendship. Therefore, he urged the NOCs to send their best athletes to participate, and added that he hoped that the Asian Federations can coordinate on this aspect with the NOCs.

The roles in the Asian Indoor Games of OCA, the organising committees, Asian Federations and also International Federations was clearly defined. Participants also discussed issues regarding competition rules, accommodation, finance and coordination meetings. The Asian Federations were requested to inform OCA as soon as possible of any amendments in their constitutions, so that the OCA can take prompt action and adjust their sports programmes as necessary.

The next Coordination Meeting will be held in July this year in Bangkok Thailand, during which issues regarding Hospitality and Venues will be further discussed. It was also suggested that the Chef-de-Mission meeting be held one or two months before the 1st Asian Indoor Games.

After the Coordination Meeting, a demonstration of several sports for 1st Asian Games was held at 1p.m. at the Macau Tower Entertainment Centre.

Chairman of Board of Directors of MAIGOC Manuel Silvério said that “the hosting of the 2nd Asian Indoor Games very much ties in with the expansion of Macao. MAIGOC will continue to work closely with OCA and the Asian Federations to promote this innovative biennial festival. Macao is ready to organise a successful and unforgettable 2nd Asian Indoor Games!”

“Investment in multisport events is worthy, since they can increase the chance for athletes to participate in different events. It is also very meaningful that such events foster friendships between athletes of different countries and regions.” said the Chairman of the Coordination Meeting, Vice-President of OCA Celso Dayrit. He also remarked that Macao has made impressive preparations for the Games.

Athletes from Thailand and Macao demonstrated various sports such as: DanceSport, Thai Martial Arts, Hoop Thraw, Skateboard and Indoor Cycling. This spectacular performance demonstrated the enthusiasm of the athletes and showcased the 1st and 2nd Asian Indoor Games which will be held on the coming November 12-19 and during the year 2007 respectively. It is believed that through these new Games will arise a new power in sport in Asia.

Representatives from OCA, 1st and 2nd Asian Indoor Games Organising Committees and several Asian Sports Federations visited a number of Macao’s new venues after the Luncheon.
