MAIGOC announces the Arrangement for the Opening Ceremony Torchbearer Selection

  Macao 2nd Asian Indoor Games Organising Committee (MAIGOC) held a press conference yesterday (20 September) to introduce the arrangement for the Opening Ceremony Torchbearer Selection. Local residents who are qualified to the eligibilities can submit their applications to MAIGOC starting from today until 28 September before 17:00. MAIGOC shall make interviews and arrange physical test with all initially eligible candidates and select three finalists to participate in the training sessions in Beijing, where one of them will be selected the torchbearer to light the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony. The three finalists will depart from Macau on 1 October, 2007 (Mon) for training and be back on 5 October, 2007 (Fri).

  Cauldron lighting is always the brightest highlight in a sport meets’ opening ceremony, and to become the torchbearer at the ceremony is a precious experience in life. MAIGOC is pleased to offer an opportunity to local residents to be a part of the ceremony through this open selection, making the cauldron lighting ceremony more significant. Therefore, the Organising Committee would like to encourage all qualified residents to participate in the activity.

  Trialists should meet the following requirements: 1) Holder of Macao Permanent Resident Identity Card with no criminal record, 2) Good health status with normal vision and no fear of heights, heart disease and high blood pressure, etc., 3) Age 18 – 25 (specifically born between October 26, 1982 and October 26, 1989), 4) Height & Weight: 1.65m – 1.75m, less than 70kg, 5) Excellent body coordination instinct and good mental status, 6) Being an athlete of skateboard, surfing, inline stunt or hiphop dance shall be an advantage standing out of the candidates with similar eligibilities if any.

  Application form is available at MAIGOC’s official website maigoc2007.sports.sina.com.cn, MAIGOC’s Headquarters (Rua do Desporto, No. 185-195, Taipa), Macao Stadium, Macau Olympic Committee Office (next to the Macao Forum), Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Official Souvenir Shops at the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf, Senado Square (Macau Government Tourism Office) and Ruins of St. Paul’s (Macau Tourism and Cultural Activities Centre). Applicant should submit by personal or by mail a completed application form (original copy) together with a recent photo and a carbon copy of identity card of his/her own to the headquarters of MAIGOC (Rua do Desporto, No. 185-195, Taipa, Macau) no latter than 17:00of 28 September 2007. Interviews and physical test with all initially eligible candidates will be arranged by the Organising Committee on September 29. Three finalists will be selected to participate in the training sessions in Beijing and one of them will be selected as the torchbearer to light the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony of the 2nd Asian Indoor Games.
