Central Asian NOCs at OCA/OS Regional Forums – Manuel Silvério encourages Elite Athletes to participate in 2AIG

  Manuel Silvério represented the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to preside the OCA/OS (Olympic Solidarity) Regional Forum for Central Asian National Olympic Committees (NOCs) on 4 September at Kyrgyzstan capital city of Bishket, and its famous tourist spot Issyk Kul.

  Also attending the Forum were Presidents and Secretaries General of NOCs from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, representatives from International Olympic Committee Olympic Solidarity, Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG), Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC), Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee, Bali Asian Beach Games Organising Committee and the Secretary General of Russia NOC. The Macao 2nd Asian Indoor Games Organising Committee (MAIGOC) has also made a presentation during the Forum.

  Manuel Silvério delivered his welcoming message in representation of President of OCA H.E. Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, extending the warmest welcome to all participants at the OCA/OS Regional Forum for Central Asian NOCs and gratitude to the dedicated support of the Kyrgyzstan government and its NOC in organizing the Forum.

  Sharing the experiences, exchanging the latest information, scheming more originative sport events, showcasing different features of regions in Asia, co-organising in projects of mutual interested were among the objectives of hosting the regional forums. Manuel Silvério said, “At this morment when the 2AIG will kick off in about 50 days, and the Beijing Olympic Games will be held in less than 1 year from now, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Solidarity and OCA have prepared a series of sport events to support all NOC members. At this meeting, they have shared the plans with the NOCs. Under these plans, all members are encouraged to select excellent athletes to participate in international multisport games.” The Vice Minister of Kyrgyzstan Sports Ministry also delivered his welcome message on behalf of his government after Manuel Silvério’s speech.

  As the Chairman of MAIGOC, Manuel Silvério introduced the preparation of the Games which will be held in Macao this coming October. He especially pointed out the arrangement and schedule in Accreditation, Security, Transportation, Customs, and Hospitality, etc. encouraging the 5 NOC members from Central Asia to dispatch elite athletes to compete in the Games. Central Asian country Kazakhstan has snatched quite a number of gold medals at the 1AIG in Bangkok, ranking second after China. During the period of the Forum, Kyrgyzstan NOC has arranged for site visits and venues inspections.
