The Macao 2nd Asian Indoor Games Organising Committee (MAIGOC) participated at the ‘Olympic Council of Asia/Olympic Solidarity (OCA/OS) Regional Forum for the West Asian National Olympic Committees (NOCs)’ in Yemen capital Sana’a on 1-2 September 2007. The meeting was opened by Yemen Olympic Committee President Abdul Rahman Al Akwa'a, together with IOC Project Manager for Olympic Solidarity Olivier Niamkey and OCA Manager of Asian Games Department Haider Farman.
The meeting was commenced with detailed presentations on the Olympic Solidarity and the preparations for the Olympic Games from Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee including fruitful results of the Chef-de-mission Seminar held in the beginning of August.
At the presentation of the Asian Indoor Games, MAIGOC Protocol Manager Kim Che and officer Walid Sharif updated representatives from all the 13 West Asian NOCs on the various aspects of the Games, providing details on specific areas such as sports delegation arrivals and departure, accreditation information, accommodation, transportation, key dates, etc. Along with the Bali 1st Asian Beach Games Organizing Committee, MAIGOC invited the generous participation of West Asian NOCs, in joint efforts to promote these new games.
Also present at the meeting are observers from the Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) and the Incheon 2014 Winter Asian Games Bidding Committee.
Participants also joined for applause to 500 children from Sana’a taking part in the 2nd official Guangzhou Asian Games Fun Run in Al Thawrah Sports Complex last Sunday. The Fun Run is held in celebration of sport in Asia and highlighted the 16th Asian Games Guangzhou 2010.
“The runs are being held to promote and spread the message of the Guangzhou Asian Games in the region and to also promote development, understanding and friendship throughout the continent,” said H.E. Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah, President of the OCA.
The Yemen Olympic Committee hosted a farewell official dinner reception in honour of all participants and received appreciation for their efforts in organizing the forum. The meeting in Yemen will be followed by the OCA/OS regional Forum for Central Asian NOCs in Bishket of Kyrgyzstan 4-5 September.
