The Macao 2ndAsian Indoor Games Organising Committee (MAIGOC) is going to launch the 2ndAsian Indoor Games Ceremonyfor 100-Day Countdown, Countdown Clock Inauguration and AnthemAnnouncement on 18th July, along with the SportsPromotion Programme in various scenic spots, to further introduce the Games and the sports tocitizens and visitors.
Activitiesin the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf on 18 July
A press conferencefor the 2AIG promotion campaign was held yesterday (12 July) at theHeadquarters of MAIGOC, introducing a series of activities to celebrate the100-Day Countdown at the Macau Fisherman’s Warf on 18 July. The activities willbegin at 16:00 including games booths (16:00–19:00), Sports Parade (19:00–19:30),Countdown Clock Inauguration and Anthem Announcement (19:30–20:00).
“Allactivities are open to the general public for free.We expect that these activities can drawgreater attention from the citizens and visitors to learn more about the 2ndAsian Indoor Games,” said Eric Chau Ka Lai, Director of Cultural Events ofMAIGOC.
Shuttle buswill be provided from 17:00 to 19:00 on that day, departing from Hotel Sintra,New Century Hotel and Supermercado Royal (Areia Preta Shop, at Iao Hon) respectivelyto the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf.On theother hand, the same service will also be available within 1 hour after the event,returning on the same routes.
In addition, following the 100-Day Countdown Ceremony,MAIGOC will hold a 30-Day Countdown torch relay event on 26 September, to markthe final stage for the preparation of the Games.
Sports Promotion Programme at scenic spots
Director of Sports of MAIGOC Sylvester Cheong HungFat introduced in the press conference the sports promotion programme to beheld in July and August, of which sports performance and games booths will be organizedin the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf on 14 July,Macau Tower on every weekend from 21 July to 20 August and in front of Senado Squareon 25 August. In the course of the promotion programme, exhibitions for the 2AIGwill be displayed at various scenic spots. Subsequently, several warm up eventsof new sports will be held to guarantee the smooth operation of the Games.
Reservingvarious venues for the Games
“To facilitate the demands on training and competition venues for theGames, MAIGOC has alreadymade reservations from 11 institutions and units, which includes Civicand Municipal Affairs Bureau, Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Macao SportsDevelopment Board, University of Macau, Macau Polytechnic Institute, MacauUniversity of Science and Technology, Macau Olympic Committee, Macao Federationof Trade Unions, Hou Kong Middle School, Colégio Diocesano de São José 6 andColégio D. Bosco. Upuntil now, there are 11 planned competition venues: Macao Stadium, Luso-Chinese School Pavilion,Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion, Macao Olympic Aquatic Centre, Macao StadiumPavilion, Bowling Centre, Macao International Shooting Range, IPM MultisportPavilion, Macau University ofScience and Technology Pavilion, Workers Sports Pavilion and MacaoEast Asian Games Dome;plus 6 training venues:Piscinas do Carmo, Macau University Sport Complex, Press and InformationCentre, Hou Kong Middle School Pavilion, Colégio Diocesano de São José 6 andComplexo Desportivo do Colégio D. Bosco,” added Sylvester Cheong.
Extensive local and overseapromotion, uniform show endof August
Regarding to Marketing,MAIGOC Director of International Affairs, Promotion and Marketing Isabel da Silva expressed, “the OrganisingCommittee will continue to invitemore sponsors and organizations to signonboard our sponsorship programme, and we will be opening up more channelsto promote the Games both locally and overseas together with our collaborators.In addition, MAIGOC has plannedto hold an uniform show before the endof August demonstrating the different uniforms thatwill be wore during the Games.”
“Aiming at extending the scope of advertising andpromotion plan, and with thesupport of the MacauGovernment Tourist Office, MAIGOC will publish a series of editorials and advertisements about the Games in various overseasmedia, promoting the 2AIG continuously in CCTV,Beijing TV, Shanghai TV, National Geographic Channel, Guangdong TV, TVB, ATV,TDM Television and Radio as well.Promotionalvideos will also be shown onboardall Air Macau’s flights, Turbojet and First Ferry to introduce the 2007 Games to all visitors coming to Macao,” said SamanthaTong Pui I, Manager of Promotion of MAIGOC.
Press Centreat the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel
Attendees presented at the press conference were Directorof Cultural Events Eric Chau Ka Lai, Director of Sports Sylvester Cheong HungFat, Director of International Affairs, Promotion and Marketing Isabel daSilva, Manager of Promotion Samantha Tong Pui I and Manager of Media Servicesand Broadcasting Cândida M.C. Ramos. Besides updatingthe floor on the upcoming promotional programme and preparations for the Games,the department heads also reported to participants the progress of theirrelated fields. It is estimated that there will be around 1,000 media coming toMacao to coverthe 2nd Asian Indoor Games, where they will be working in the MainPress Centre located at the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel that covers an area of1,303m2.
