The OS/OCA South East Asian(SEA) Forum was convened between 19-20 June in Bali of Indonesia, during whichthe 11 Member NOCs in SEA zone discussed NOC’s games preparation focusing toXXIX Olympiad Beijing 2008 and 2nd Asian Indoor Games Macau 2007.
Co-organised by theInternational Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Solidarity and the OlympicCouncil of Asia (OCA), these regional forums are intended to support AsianNational Olympic Committees (NOCs) in sports development.Macao2nd Asian Indoor Games Organising Committee (MAIGOC)Director Isabel da Silva updated the Forum participants on preparatory worksfor the 2nd Asian Indoor Games.
With the Chef-de-Missionmeeting scheduled to the next week in Macao,the presentation by MAIGOC in Bali has received great attention. The South East AsianOlympic Committees participants have received the most updated information, andwith a deeper level of knowledge, will be well prepared on the questions to beasked at the upcoming meeting. MAIGOCChairman Manuel Silverio has also attended the East Asian Forum in Tokyo earlier this weekto encourage greater NOCs participation in the Games.
The Chef-de-Mission meetingto be held next week will be the final gathering of all participating sportsdelegations leaders, members of OCA and of MAIGOC before the Games, to discuss for the preparation in all areas of the2nd Asian Indoor Games. Information desks relating to several areasof the Games organization will be setup to enhance communication and resolvingqueries of NOCs participation. The meet in Macauwill also be determinant to prepare all the details related with the sportsdelegations to the Asian Indoor Games, as the flags and the anthems of thecountries and regions involved.
Bali being the hosting cityof the first ever Asian Beach Games in 2008 have presented a diversifiedprogram to Forum attendants, including Woodball and Paragliding demonstrations,and local cultural performances. Also, Balihas showcased their preparations and held the first fashion show of the preliminarydesigns of uniforms for the 1st Beach Games. Forum participants alsotoured sport venues of Beach Games to be held next year for the first time inthe Indonesian island.
The IOC and OCA RegionalForums for the three other Asian zones will be held until October. The upcomingCentral Asian NOCs Regional Forums will be held in Kazakhstanon 31 August, followed by the West Asian Forum on 5 September, in Yemen. TheSouth Asian Forum will be finishing this annual series in Sri Lanka inOctober.
