OCA Newly Elected Executive Board hold its First Meeting 2007-05-29  MAIGOC


  The50th Olympic Council of Asia(OCA) Executive Board Meeting was heldlast Monday in Almaty, Kazakhstan, the host city of the 7thAsian Winter Games.

  OCA President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah commented atthis first meeting of thenewly elected Executive Board that this is going to be veryactive term (2007-2010).Many eventswill betaking place in the Asia, including the 2nd Asian Indoor Games to beheld this year; in 2008, there is the much anticipated Beijing Olympic, as wellas the 1st Asian Beach Games to be held in Bali; in 2009, the 3rdAsian Indoor Games to be held in Vietnam; in 2010, there is the 16thAsian Games in Guangzhou and the 2nd Asian Beach Games in Oman. Inaddition, there will also be the hosting of other continental andmultisport events of the five Asian zones.

  SheikhAhmad expressed gratitude to the National Olympic Committeeof the Republic of Kazakhstan (KOC), Almaty and the people for their hospitality.

  The President’s speech was followed by address by KOCPresident Temirkhan Dosmukhambetov, and the presentation ofthe AlmatyWinter Asian Games Organising Committee. It was proposed that the Almaty Games willbe composed of a 12 sports program, and to be hosted between 30 January and 6 February 2011.

  Also in the agenda is Prince Faisal AlHussein presentation on IOC “Peace through sports” project, which was launched this April.He pointed out that peace can be passedon from child to child, country to county, generation to generation throughsports.

  At thecourse of the meeting, the members of the 15 Standing Committees, includingAnti-doping were approved by the Executive Board.Chairman of OCA Media Committee Manuel Silvério is lookingforward to begin working with the 10 newlyappointed Media Committee members, “With the clearand objective plan that have been prepared, we will work closely with OCA Headquarters to build up astrong and long term working partnership with the media to promote OCA, ourvision and different Asian Games events.”

  Another subjectapproved by the Executive Board is OCA recognition of two Asian Federations,namely of Kickboxing and Jijitsu.

  As was decided at the General Assembly, the Guangzhou AsianGames Sports Program will be composingof 41 sports. Following further studiesand discussions by the Sport Committee, OCA Director General Husain Al-Musallam, OCA Technical Department,and the organising committee GAGOC, 5 sporting issueshave been raised and approved by the ExecutiveBoard to be only for this edition of the Asian Games, these are: 1) Cricket will be added; 2)Chess will be maintained; 3) Roller sports willbe maintained; 4)Weiqi will be a disciplineof Chess; 5) Soft Tennis will be a discipline of Tennis.The sports for thedifferent Asian Games eventswill be defined in a possible upcoming congress of the OCA.

  The next Executive Board meeting will be held in Macau approximate to the 2ndAsian IndoorGames
