Manuel Silvério at AIPS Congress Enhance relationships, promote Macau

  Macao is meeting the international sports press at the 70th AIPS Congress commencing Wednesday (16 May) which saw the participation of 400 journalists and guests from over 100 countries. Chairman of MAIGOC Manuel Silvério is in the occasion to introduce the Macao 2007, 2nd Asian Indoor Games to be held this coming October and November to international sports press. As Vice President and Chairman of the Media Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), he seeks to reinforce the long-term relationship between OCA and AIPS.

  At the opening gala for the 70th Anniversary AIPS Congress, Manuel Silvério met AIPS President Gianni Merlo. The gala was attended by several important personalities from the sports circle, from Olympic athletes to officials, and the Congress was officially opened by Austria’s Federal Chancellor, Dr. Alfred Gusenbauer.

  Macau Sports Press Association President Lao Iu Kong and Secretary General Nicholas Fong are representing Macao membership at the Congress. “Attending these meetings is very important for us,” Lao Iu Kong underlined. “It is an opportunity to understand how the contacts with the National Olympic Committees are made, and to know the new trends of the international sports press.” Besides the panels that are specifically about journalistic practices, the 70th AIPS Congress program also includes an important section for the presentations of major sports events.

  At the meeting yesterday UEFA is promoting the Euro 2008, which Austria is one of the host countries. Manuel Silvério who was invited to deliver a speech at the AIPS Asian Continental Section meeting, will introduce to AIPS members the preparations for the Asian Indoor Games, as well as the visions and updates of the OCA.
