Yesterday (Jan 20), Manuel Silvério, the 1st Vice-President and Secretary-General of the Macau Olympic Committee, received invitation to the Changchun Winter Asian Games from Zhu Yejing, Deputy President of Standing Committee of the Changchun 2007 Asian Winter Games Organizing Committee (CAWGOC) and Mayor of the Changchun Municipal Government, symbolizing Macao was invited to participate in the games of winter sports in Asia to be hosted by OCA in Changchun from 28 Jan to 4 Feb in 2007. Before the Invitation Ceremony, Wang Rulin, Vice President of CAWGOC and Secretary of Changchun Municipal Committee, expressed warm welcomes to the members of OCA Coordination Committee as well as representatives from NOCs of Asia. Yu Zaiqing, Vice President of the Chinese Olympic Committee and Deputy Director of the State General Administration of Sports and Timothy Fok, Vice President of OCA, were presented in the ceremony among the others.
Participants of the function including Manuel Silvério and NOC representatives have joined in a briefing meeting on the work progress of the games before they moved to visit the venues where ice hockey, speed skating and curling are scheduled to take place during the games. Besides, visit was also made to auxiliary facilities and hotels for participating athletes. According to CAWGOC, the 6th Winter Asian Games has been prepared so well. With 80% of the facilities completed, CAWGOC is confident in making the coming Winter Asian Games the largest-scale sport meet with most charms and greatest success. Coordination meeting for the Games was held on the same day by OCA and CAWGOC.
In the evening, Manuel Silvério attended a welcome party and an anthem contest organized by the Jilin Provincial Government and the Changchun Municipal Government.
