Commencement of the 1st Association of the Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committee’s Games Organising Commission

  Guests gathered yesterday, at MEAGOC headquarters, to witness the inauguration of the activities of the 1st Association of the Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committees’s Games Organising Commission. The ceremony’s main purpose was to make official the activities of the organising commission which will become responsible for preparing and organising the games, which will provide a means for a closer connection between the 10 Portuguese speaking Olympic committees’ members.

  The event included the contract signing between the Macao 2nd Asian Indoor Games Organising Committee, S.A. (MAIGOC) and Lusa – Agências de Notícias de Portugal S.A., and the launching of the 1st ACOLOP Games official webpage. The contract was signed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of MAIGOC, Manuel Silvério, and LUSA’s Chief of Delegation, JoséCosta Santos. As well as promoting Macao as a doorway between China and the Portuguese speaking countries and regions. This formalized partnership intends to promote the 1st ACOLOP Games and the 2nd Indoor Asian Games activities, and to collaborate in the production of Portuguese written materials about the events.

  Attending the ceremony were: the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Fernando Chui Sai On, Consul General of Portugal in Macao, Pedro Moitinho de Almeida, the Chairman, the 2nd Vice-president and the Secretary General of the East Asian Games Association, in that order, Eddie Laam, Ma Yao Hang and Cheong Wai Kei, the Chairman of the Association of the Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committees, Commandant Vicente Moura, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of MAIGOC and the 1st ACOLOP games organising commission, Manuel Silvério and the Director of MAIGOC, Hong Wai.

  The 1st Association of the Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committees’s Games Organising Commission office is located in the MAIGOC headquarters, at Rua do Desporto, 185-195, 5th floor, in Taipa.

  The 10 founding member NOC’s of ACOLOP represent the countries and regions of Angola Brazil, Cape Verde, Portugal, Guinea-Bissau, São Toméand Príncipe, East Timor, Mozambique and Macau,China , with Equatorial Guinea as an associate member. There will be six sports in the sport program of the 1st ACOLOP Games in 2006, including Athletics, Basketball, Table Tennis, Beach Volleyball, Taekwondo and Futsal. The Games are scheduled to be held from the 20th to 25th August 2006.
