Jointly organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), the Macao 2nd Asian Indoor Games Organising Committee (MAIGOC), China Doping Control Centre and Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), the two-day Anti Doping Training Course of the 2AIG started off yesterday (15 September 2007) at the MUST Hospital.
The Training Course was opened with welcoming remarks by Chairman of MAIGOC and OCA Media Committee Mr. Manuel Silvério, Chairman of OCA Medical Committee Dr. M. Jegathesan and Vice President of the National Research Institute of Sports Medicine (NRISM) of the State General Administration of Sport (SGAS) Mr. Zhao Jian. In his opening address, Mr. Manuel Silvério welcomed the lecturers, trainees and participants to the important training course. Doping Control was important and significant in the world of sport. OCA has worked very closely with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to ensure the integrity of all the Asian Games events and the health of the athletes. As an organizing committee, and as the Olympic Committee of Macau, Macau was very committed in this area of work, especially in the long term practice and development to deter doping and to protect the rights and health of athletes, while sending the right message to the youths in Macau, and the region, as well as to contribute in this significant area of work globally. He encouraged the trainees to continue to carry on and be an integral part of this important work.
Dr. M.Jegathesan noted that the trainees in the Anti Doping Training Course will become a significant element of the success of the upcoming 2nd Asian Indoor Games. In face of the challenging task, he hoped that all the trainees could follow the lesson closely and thus contribute their knowledge to the Games. Mr. Zhao Jian expressed that NRISM is delighted to cooperate with MAIGOC again. He was confident that the experience garnered from the 4th East Asian Games in 2005 and 1st Lusofonia Games in 2006 would drive the success of the Anti Doping efforts at the Macau 2007, 2nd Asian Indoor Games.
At the training course for near 100 trainees, Mr. Zhao Jian and lecturers from NRISM Mr. Yu Hao and Ms. Yang Xiao Ye introduced the Anti Doping regulations in multisport events, post-competition sampling procedures as well as professional knowledge about Doping Control. In the Indoor Hockey test event scheduled next week, the trainees would have the opportunity to practice what they learned in the training course and prepare for working in doping control at the 17 competition sports and 3 demonstration sports during the 2nd Asian Indoor Games.
Also attended the training course were member of Anti-Doping Committee of OCA Dr. Yuan Hong, MAIGOC Directors Ms Hong Wai, Ms Isabel da Silva and Mr. Sylvester Cheong, Medical service supervisor of the 2nd Asian Indoor Games Medical Service Work Group Dr. Chan Wai Sin and Head of the 2nd Asian Indoor Games Anti-Doping Program Dr. Guilherme Wong Wai Lap.
