NOC cooperation agreement signed between Macao and East Timor 2006-07-27  MAIGOC

  Representing respectively Macau OlympicCommittee and East Timor Olympic Committee,Manuel Silvério and JoãoCarrascalão signed a cooperation agreement in Dili, EastTimor capital, in the morning of 26th.Ambassador Su Jian of People’s Republic of China in East Timorand East Timor Secretary of State for Sport and Juvenile José Manuel Fernandes werepresent to witness the ceremony.

  This agreement will facilitate bothparties to tighten their cooperation on developing Olympic sports, andestablish sports partnership of mutual benefits.

  “It is glad to witness how the agreementcame into being. It gives hope to the sports circle of EastTimor.I hope thecooperation will be fruitful,” said Secretary of State Fernandes.

  Under this agreement, according to 1stVice-president of MOC Manuel Silvério, MOC will provide technical assistance toEast Timor sports delegations when they have trainingsessions in Macaoon their preparations for the 1st Lusofonia Games, 15thDoha Asian Games and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.Besides, MOC will assist its counterpartwith IT equipment and professional trainings in administration and relatedfields.

  The President of East Timor OlympicCommittee expressed that the signing of the agreement was a historical momentin the sports history of East Timor.He appreciated MOC’s contributions in pushingthe developments of Olympic sports in East Timorand of East Timor NOC.

  To conclude his tour in East Timor, ManuelSilvério in his title of OCA Vice-president had an informal meeting with SukehiroHasegawa, representative of Secretary General of the United Nations in East Timor.ManuelSilvério introduced how OCA President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah plans tohelp East Timor to develop its sportsindustry. Granting high appreciation to the plan, Sukehiro Hasegawa expressedhis special hope to see fruitful achievements on personnel training, which hebelieved could help this young country to recover very soon.
